No accounts
You don’t need to sign up or log in to use Hat Yai Transit, and we never ask for your name or phone number. The only time we ask for an email address is when a developer requests a free API key (see below).
Page analytics (Plausible)
To see which pages are useful, we use Plausible Analytics, running on our own server. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t follow you across other websites and doesn’t store your IP address. It counts things like the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your country and your device type, but only as totals.
Server logs and API counts
Like most websites, our server keeps basic technical logs (such as the time, the page or API address requested, your IP address and your browser type) to keep the service secure and to fix problems. We also keep running totals of how many times each API endpoint is used each day; these counts contain no IP addresses or personal details.
How we pick your language
On your first visit, our server looks up which country your IP address is in, once, to choose a language: visitors in Thailand see Thai and everyone else sees English. The lookup uses an offline database on our own server. Your IP address isn’t sent to anyone else for this, and we don’t store the result. You can switch language at any time.
Cookies and storage on your device
- The
hyt_langcookie remembers the language you chose (kept for 1 year). - Your browser’s local storage remembers your language and that you’ve already seen the welcome screen.
- Your browser may keep offline copies of pages and route data so the app opens faster and still works with a weak signal.
There are no advertising or tracking cookies. You can clear all of this at any time in your browser settings.
Journey planning and place search
When you search for a place or plan a trip, what you type or pick (a place name, a stop or a point on the map) is sent to our server to work out the route. For place search and walking directions, our server passes the search text or the start and end points to Google Maps Platform, so Google’s privacy policy also applies. If Google is unavailable, walking routes may come from the public OpenStreetMap routing service (routing.openstreetmap.de).
To keep costs down, our server caches search results and walking routes for up to 30 days. These caches hold only search text, place details or rounded coordinates, and nothing that links them to you.
Developer API keys
If you request a free API key on the Developers page, you give us an email address so we can send you the key. Cloudflare Turnstile first checks that you’re a person (Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser details), and the email is delivered by Resend, which handles your address to send it. We don’t store your email address or the key itself: only a one-way fingerprint of each (to recognise the key and to limit how many keys one address can get), plus when the key was made, when it was last used and how many requests it made. You can revoke your key at any time.
Your location
We only ask for your location when you tap “Use current location”, and your browser asks for your permission first. Your location is used to plan that trip (including the walking route, as described above). We don’t save it to a profile or keep a history of where you’ve been. You can turn location access off at any time in your browser or phone settings.
Other services and links
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and map images from map tile servers; like any website, those servers see your IP address.
- Links to ViaBus, SRT (TTS-TrainView and D-Ticket), KTMB, Facebook and news sites take you to sites with their own privacy policies.
- If the journey planner hands you over to Malaysia Transit or SG-JB Transit, your start and end points are included in the link so they’re filled in for you.
We don’t sell your data
We don’t sell, rent or share your information for advertising or marketing. There are no ads on Hat Yai Transit.
